The MÉSZ

The MÉSZ ( Association of Hungarian Architects ) is a professional civil organization with voluntary membership, that deals with all the professional, social, cultural, artistic aspects of the Architecture. ( The corporate body of the Chamber of Hungarian Architects - a separate organization - is responsible for the licencing, regulations, schedule of fees, code of ethics etc. )

The MÉSZ includes 1100 members. Roughly half of them in the capital, half of them from the countryside. For contacts, six local centres have been selected.


The structure of the MÉSZ includes all activities related to man-made environment:
             
    - physical planning, town planning,      
    - building design      
    - interior architecture      
    - architectural heritage      
    - landscape architecture      

The building design is further split up into 10 groups of characteristics type of building which include most the UIA programmes:
             
    - Residential      
    - Industrial, transport, agricultural,      
    - Educational facilities,      
    - Public health buildings,      
    - Non residential accommodation and catering,      
    - Commercial,      
    - Cultural,      
    - Devotional,      
    - Offices, bureaus,      
    - Sport, leisure-tourism.      

To these join: further groups dealing with theory, history of Architecture, design methodology, environment and energy conscious design, building constructions, site management, building economics, architectural education and group of those acting in building administration governmental and local.

Its official periodical is the Új Magyar Építőművészet (MÉ) New Hungarian Architectural Art.

Its on-line architect and building collection is architecahungarica.hu founded by Béla Borvendég the honorary president of MÉSZ.

The Építész Közlöny Architects Bulletin published jointly with the Chamber of Hungarian Architects , is a monthly edition.

Its Headquarter Building ( the former Almássy Palace ) includes: beyond the office rooms, a library of books, periodical, video-tapes, conference-rooms, exhibition-room, and the Építész Pince, the Architect-Cellar a restaurant.
